Matcha
Japanese matcha powder
Pure matcha from Japan, of the highest quality. Shade-grown tea leaves, ground into a fine, bright green powder for a bowl of matcha, a matcha latte or baking.
What is matcha?
Matcha is made from tea leaves that grow in the shade during the last weeks before harvest. The leaves are steamed, dried and ground into a very fine powder. Unlike regular green tea, you don't steep the leaves and throw them away: you whisk the powder into water and drink all of it. Our matcha comes from Japan.
How to use it
- A bowl of matcha: 2 grams of matcha with 70 ml of water at 70 to 80 °C, whisked until frothy.
- Matcha latte: whisk 2 grams of matcha with 30 ml of hot water, then add 150 to 200 ml of warm or cold milk.
- Baking: sift the matcha into your dry ingredients so it spreads evenly.
Storage
Close the pouch well and keep it cool, dry and dark. Air, light and heat dull the colour and the taste of matcha. Once opened, matcha is at its best within a few weeks.
Frequently asked questions
How much matcha do I use per cup?
About 2 grams for 70 ml of water. Use a little more for a stronger bowl.
Why shouldn't the water be boiling?
Boiling water makes matcha taste bitter. Water between 70 and 80 °C keeps it smooth and fresh.
Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes. Matcha is made from tea leaves, so it contains caffeine, just like other green tea.
